Everybody hates these worms, they are ugly and take away from the enjoyment of your home. There are many companies running around that will charge you $2,000 a tree to treat these, when in fact, it is usually too late in the season. We've seen companies charge people $40,000 to kill pests that can't be killed. In general, the best time to treat trees for these pests is during their active feeding period, while they are in their larval (infant) form, which typically occurs in the spring. If you wait until June, it's going to be too late! Adult worms of these kind are usually not killed by any pesticide, so beware any company telling you they can get rid of them.
FYI, at the end of the season, when Winter approaches, your tree may still need treatment, as the bugs lay eggs in the surrounding area.
If you are unsure about the best approach for treating your specific trees, contact us for a free estimate. We care about our reputation, we aren't going to charge anyone for a needless treatment. If the charge is necessary, it doesn't usually cost that much. Final note, if you see these worms, don't wait! If you don't spray immediately, you will most likely need to wait until Spring of next year to treat!
