What are the Signs of Tree

Pest Infection?

  • 1. My Tree Sounds Hollow

If you tap your tree & notice it sounds hollow, you might have termites in your tree. Unfortunately, termites are hard to see signs for, but typically a hollow-sounding tree is one of them. Call Brown's to get an assessment of the state of your tree and see what can be done for it.

  • 2. The Top of My Tree is Dying

This can be a clear sign that an invasive species has made your tree their home. There are a few bugs that could be causing your tree to be unhealthy, & we're trained to identify & treat for them.

  • 3. There are Holes Leading Into My Tree

Pine beetles are known to prey on weak or unhealthy trees, which can lead to your tree dying. Keeping your trees healthy will lessen the chance of a pine beetle infestation. However, if you notice holes leading into your tree (pictured left), give Brown's a call.

  • 4. I See Larvae or Eggs All Over My Tree

An obvious sign you have a pest infestation is larvae or eggs all over your tree. We can get rid of this infestation for you at Brown's!

You Didn't List Symptoms I'm Seeing in my Tree

If your tree is exhibiting symptoms not listed above, there's still a good chance your tree has a disease or a pest invading it. The best thing you can do for your tree's health is getting a free estimate from Brown's so that the experts can figure out what's impacting your tree. Some diseases or pests can "jump" from tree to tree so not only is getting professional help good for your infected tree, but other trees around it as well.

Early Spring Treatments

Most bugs can be treated during most times of the year, but webworms and bagworms are the exception. These pesky worms have a small window for treatment and can be trickier to deal with than other infestations. Bagworms and Webworms need to be treated in the early Spring, or removal of the infestation will be much harder, maybe even impossible.

Webworms are yellow, brown and furry. If you see this type of worm in your tree eating leaves, this could lead to an infestation.  If you see webs entangling the tops of ends of your branches, an infestation has likely already happened. With webworms it's always better to call early rather than later.

Bagworm larvae is harder to notice, but the spindle shaped bags that hang from your trees is their most noticeable attribute. While bagworms can impact many types of trees, they are extremely damaging to evergreens in particular. Call Brown's today to take care of bagworms before the damage becomes irreparable.

What If...

I didn't notice them & now bugs have killed my tree

Unfortunately there's not a lot we can do once a tree has died from pests. What Brown's can do for you is remove the dead tree & also assess the area to see if bugs have infested any surrounding trees. If surrounding trees are infested, we can make sure to treat those trees before they get too unhealthy & weak.

I could do it myself for a lower cost, why hire Brown's?
